About the museum
The Hiša kranjske čebele in Višnja Gora is the first immersive house of the Carniolan honeybee in Slovenia. It tells the story of the Slovenian native bee and is a place for active leisure, exploration and the generation of ideas.
The permanent immersive exhibition was set up in the well-known old school on Mestni trg and is designed as an educational labyrinth inspired by the Carniolan honeybee. Visitors are accompanied by virtual heroes, members of the famous beekeeping family Rothschütz from Višnja Gora. No more than 25 people can view the exhibition at one time, so visits are tied to guided tours.
The house also contains a café, an info centre with reception and a souvenir shop (the tourist information centre of the destination Prijetno domače Ivančna Gorica), the ApiLab laboratory and the accommodation “Spanje v panju” (Sleeping in the Hive) with twelve rooms shaped like honeycomb cells. The house is run by the Javni zavod za kulturo in turizem Prijetno domače Ivančna Gorica.
