About the museum
The Galerija likovnih samorastnikov Trebnje (Gallery of Self-Taught Artists Trebnje) has operated since 1971 as the central institution in Slovenia for naive or self-taught art. It was founded to keep and exhibit the works created at the International Camps of Self-Taught Artists in Trebnje, which have been held there every year since 1968.
The gallery spaces were at first in the Trebnje parsonage, but since 2004 the gallery has been housed in a building in the centre of the town at Goliev trg 1 (Goli Square). The rooms are used for a permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions and events, and the gallery is also the official wedding venue.
The entire collection comprises around 1,500 works of art by more than 360 authors and, in terms of its size and quality, ranks among the most important collections of self-taught art in Europe. The founders of the gallery are the municipalities of Trebnje, Mirna, Šentrupert and Mokronog–Trebelno.
