About the museum
Beside the inner courtyard of the Bazilika Marije Pomagaj at Brezje, in the wide corridor of the Franciscan monastery, a permanent exhibition of works by the academic painter Nikolaj Mašukov is on display. The cycle Križev pot comprises fourteen stations of Jesus' way to Calvary and is concluded by an image of the Resurrection. It is not just fifteen paintings but a gallery of portraits of the people whom Jesus met on his way.
Nikolaj Aleksandrovič Mašukov was born in Krasnojarsk in Siberia, where he finished a painting school, and completed his academy studies in sculpture in Moscow. In 1994 he moved to Slovenia together with his wife, the artist Maša Bersan Mašuk, and found a home in the village of Ljubno. He donated all the works in the exhibition to the Franciscan monastery at Brezje in gratitude for help and support on their arrival in Slovenia.
