About the museum
The museum on the ground floor of a building on Linhartov trg is the only independent museum in Slovenia dedicated to pharmacy and alchemy. The collection is the result of forty years of collecting objects on the themes of pharmacies, cosmetics and alchemy from all over the world, and it found its place in Radovljica in one of the old burghers’ houses.
The collection of Spanish and Italian albarelli, decorated ceramic jars for storing medicines, is especially rich. Among the mortars, the oldest dates from the 12th century, and among the thirty pharmaceutical books there is one from the 15th century. The collection also includes some exhibits from ancient and Asian medicine, and an ethnological collection on folk healing in Slovenian territory. With the collection on cosmetics and perfumery, the museum relates to the family tradition of the owner, the Mioba company from Ljubljana.
The museum also has a small shop, fitted out as an old pharmacy, selling natural cosmetics, souvenirs, herbal and essential oils and teas.
