About the museum
The Muzej bivalne kulture Oplenova hiša (Oplenova House Museum of Residential Culture) below Studor was opened to the public in 1991. All rooms are furnished with the authentic equipment of the last owners, so the house shows the residential culture of the Bohinj people at the beginning of the 20th century. The present building was probably erected at the beginning of the 19th century in place of an older wooden house. A beam with three small openings was used when the cellar ceiling was built, and during archaeological probing in the entrance hall and kitchen several coins from the 19th century were found.
Oplenova hiša is a Bohinj stretched-type farmstead (stegnjeni tip), which combines the living and farm quarters under one common roof. The building is made of stone and combined with wood. The living part consists of an entrance hall with a kitchen, the house and the pantry, the attic and the cellar. The black kitchen without a chimney has three hearths and is one of the few in which a fire can still be lit on the open hearth. The approach to the bridge leading to the barn above the cowshed runs past the living quarters, a typical feature of Bohinj.
The house contains a table under the icon corner, benches, a pottery stove, a household loom and other objects; the barn holds farm tools, a ladder cart (voz lojtrnik) and sledges (sani krtiči). Many objects were donated for the museum display by the villagers of Studor. In 2021 the museum was renamed Eko muzej Oplenova domačija; it is run by the Gorenjski muzej.
