About the museum
The Casa do Patrón, in the locality of Codeseda (Doade, Lalín), presents itself as the great ecomuseum of rural Galicia. It brings together more than two thousand square metres spread over several buildings, with themed rooms, a chapel and a castro house, and combines the ethnographic museum with a restaurant serving traditional Galician cuisine, which started as a family business in 1995.
The collection shows the traditional Galician house, with kitchen, dining room and bedrooms, as well as a tavern, a school, rural medicine and craft workshops such as those of the shoemaker, the stonemason, the carpenter, the blacksmith, the tinsmith, the miller and the potter. Other rooms are devoted to agriculture, livestock farming, the processing of flax and traditional fishing. The site includes a wood-fired oven, two river mills and a leisure area by the river.
The surroundings are part of the visit: the Castro de Doade, a settlement dating from the Bronze and Iron Ages, and a mámoa, with hiking routes such as the Castro de Doade circuit (PR-G210). The museum organises workshops and demonstrations throughout the year and traditional festivals such as the Malla, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest of Galicia.
