About the museum
The museum occupies the Torre de Bermúdez, a 16th-century Renaissance palace, probably built between 1540 and 1545, which belonged to the paternal family of Ramón del Valle-Inclán. Royal Decree 249/1976 declared it a National Historic-Artistic Monument. According to the local tourist office, the writer lived in A Pobra do Caramiñal between 1916 and 1925, years in which he wrote works such as “Luces de bohemia” and “Divinas palabras”.
After the restoration of the tower, A Pobra do Caramiñal town council promoted the museum to preserve and disseminate records of the writer's life and work. It opened to the public on 16 May 1987 and is regarded as a pioneering heritage collection in Spain devoted to literature.
The holdings include first and rare editions, original manuscripts, period photographs, works of fine art (sculpture, painting and caricature), costumes, stage sets and theatre posters, as well as original furniture from his homes. The exhibition is organised in six rooms: Arousa, Bradomín, Viana do Prior, Max Estrella, Iconography and Auditorium. The museum also has a room for temporary exhibitions and an auditorium where cultural activities take place throughout the year.
