About the museum
The collection is displayed on the first floor of the Hogar del Pescador building in the centre of San Pedro del Pinatar and is run on a non-profit basis by the town's Cofradía de Pescadores (fishermen's brotherhood). It is the only museum in the Mar Menor area devoted exclusively to the art of fishing.
The holdings bring together models of boats and of traditional fishing gear of the Mar Menor, sea shells, old photographs, sailors' knots and preserved specimens such as loggerhead turtles. Together they illustrate the fishing customs of the area and the lives of the fishermen.
The brotherhood has also promoted the fitting-out of the museum and of the Lo Pagán fish market (lonja) as cultural spaces devoted to fishing and to the environment of the Mar Menor.
