About the museum
The museum occupies the former Guardia Civil barracks of San Javier, an isolated mid-20th-century building that keeps its L-shaped plan, its sentry boxes and a central courtyard. Its origins as a museum date back to 1996.
The ethnological room tells the history of the municipality between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries in three sections: the land, with agriculture; the sea, with fishing; and the air, with the General Air Academy.
Another room is devoted to the Belén de España, a tribute to the large open-air nativity scene that has been set up every Christmas in Plaza de España in San Javier since 1969. The museum also has a room for temporary exhibitions. In the same building there is a nativity museum with around 500 figures.
