About the museum
Chocolates Comes presents itself as a family of chocolate makers with a tradition going back before 1870. The workshop was set up in 1966 in a house on Calle Sant Josep, and from 1995 it was enlarged with an adjoining premises on Calle Nou. Around 2000 the complex was demolished and a new building was erected for the factory, workshop, warehouse and museum. The museum opened in 2002 and was extended in 2005 with another adjoining house.
The collection grew out of the machinery and utensils the family had kept, and out of pieces gathered over the years from all over Spain. On the ground floor are the process machines, from the metate (grinding stone) to the emulsifier, including the roaster and the husker. On the upper floor are chocolate pots, whisks (molinillos), mancerinas (cup stands), measures of capacity, weights and scales, books on the history of chocolate, posters, cards and advertising metal boxes, as well as a model of a falla (Valencian festival monument) dedicated to chocolate.
The visit goes through the workshop, where stone-ground chocolate is still made in the traditional way, and ends with a tasting.
