About the museum
The Museo de Historia y Arqueología de Cullera is inside the Gothic chapel of Cullera castle, a fortress of Andalusian origin that dominates the town. It is a municipal museum and part of the Red de Museos de Cullera (Cullera Museum Network).
Its collection traces the history of the municipal area from Prehistory to the contemporary period. A Palaeolithic display case stands out, with stone tools and fauna from the Volcán del Faro site, as well as arrowheads and ornaments from Bronze Age burial caves and materials from the settlement of Les Oliveretes. The Iberian culture is represented by luxury ceramics imported from Greece, Phoenician pottery, loom weights and weapons. The Roman period is shown with imported ceramics, amphorae, oil lamps, net weights and a bronze statuette of Hercules.
From the Islamic period there are ceramics from the 9th to the 13th centuries and bronze medical instruments. From the Middle Ages onwards there are sabres, muskets, tombstones and a Gothic cross. The route relies on audiovisual and interactive systems adapted for visually impaired people.
