About the museum
The Museo del Herraje is in Palazuelos, a locality (pedanía) of Sigüenza, in a rural house built in 1856 a few metres from the village's former forge and next to the Puerta de la Villa. It is a private project of Esperanza Monge and Anselmo del Olmo, who bought the house in 1979 and rehabilitated it while respecting the original construction: the doors with their ironwork, the stone floor of the entrance hall, the wooden beams and the walls of plaster and exposed stone.
The display pays tribute to Primitivo Muñoz, the last blacksmith of Palazuelos, from a family of smiths in El Atance. The forge was a necessary stop for shoeing pack animals, ordering locks and nails or repairing tools. The pieces, rescued from houses and rubbish heaps, are shown in the entrance hall of the house and show the most representative items of the trade in the village and its surroundings.
