About the museum
The museum is named after José Luis Lorenzo Barreto, a favourite son of Tijarafe who died in 1999 and devoted much of his life to preserving the town's traditions and, in particular, the traditional dress of the island.
The collection occupies the upper floor of the Biblioteca El Pueblo, on Calle Real in the old town of Tijarafe. It brings together traditional garments from the various municipalities of La Palma: formal and festive dress, but also the clothing worn for work in the fields and at sea.
The exhibition is rotating: the pieces are alternated, so that each visit shows only part of the museum's holdings.
