About the museum

The Museo Etnográfico y de la Trashumancia was created in 1985 in the Town Hall square of Prioro, in the eastern mountains of León. Prioro was one of the villages that supplied the most shepherds to transhumance, the seasonal movement of livestock, and the museum preserves that memory.

The collection was built up from hundreds of traditional pieces donated by residents and is arranged by use. A more recent building, behind the Town Hall, houses several rooms devoted to transhumance and herding, agriculture and farm work, the kitchen, the traditional bedroom, flax and wool, woodworking trades, and a children's corner with old school objects and toys.

Among the highlights is one of the last flax looms preserved in the eastern part of the Leonese mountains.
