About the museum

The Aschan family came to the property in Eksjö in the 1830s. Leo Felix Aschan was a tanner and started a tannery on the site that is today called Museigården. The property included the family home, offices and a leather store, as well as a brewhouse, stable and garden.

Three generations of Aschans lived and worked at the property. The last generation consisted of five siblings, and when the youngest, Hedda, died in 1984 at the age of 101, there were no heirs. The property was then taken over by a foundation.

The home remains in untouched condition and is a unique example of a middle-class home from the turn of the 20th century. During the tours, menus, recipes and visiting cards in the dining room tell the story of festive dinners. The Christmas tours in December, when the tree is decorated and the table is laid, are especially popular.
