About the museum
Axbomsgården is an 18th-century timber farmstead in the cultural reserve of Skänninge, known as Gamla Skeninge, which holds three museum farms and a herb garden. The building today houses a school museum with school materials and classroom settings from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The farms in Gamla Skeninge are owned by the municipality but are run and shown by S:ta Ingrids gille (St Ingrid's Guild), the local heritage society in Skänninge, which also owns the museum objects. The guild was founded in 1926, and one of its aims from the outset was to create a “fornhem” (heritage home) in Skänninge. That heritage home exists today in the cultural reserve, with the three museum farms Axbomsgården, Sandbergsgården and Sjölingården. The museum can also be experienced through a 360-degree film made by the guild.
