About the museum
Sandbergsgården is an 18th-century farm in Skänninge’s cultural reserve Gamla Skeninge, where three museum farms and a herb garden lie close together. The house shows a townhouse setting from the 19th century, and several rooms have preserved original paintings from the 18th century. The small peep holes in the doors tell of how the maid could stand and peek at the household.
The farm includes a garden with sheds, a summer house (lusthus) and old plants and fruit varieties. It is the only listed heritage garden in Mjölby Municipality.
The farms in Gamla Skeninge are owned by Mjölby Municipality but are looked after and shown by S:ta Ingrids gille (St Ingrid’s Guild), the local heritage society of Skänninge, which also owns the museum objects. The guild was formed in 1926, and one of its aims from the start was to create an antiquities home (fornhem) in the town. That antiquities home is today in the cultural reserve with Axbomsgården, Sandbergsgården and Sjölingården.
