About the museum
The artist Axel Ebbe and his wife Lillemor donated a large art collection to Trelleborg town in 1933. An art hall was built for the gift and was inaugurated in 1935. The building is functionalist, lies next to Stadsparken (the city park) and is counted as one of the town’s best-known buildings.
Axel Ebbe was a painter, sculptor, graphic artist, draughtsman and author. The collection includes monumental plaster sculptures, prints and poetry, among them Skogsrået (the forest spirit), Fyrbåken (the lighthouse beacon) and Sjöormen (the sea serpent). Fairy-tale motifs such as the bäckahäst (water horse), trolls and Skogsrået recur in many of the works.
The art hall was renovated and extended, and it reopened in October 2025. The extension contains a space for temporary exhibitions, a studio for educational activities and a small café. The art hall is part of Trelleborgs museer (Trelleborg Museums) and shows a new basic exhibition on Axel Ebbe’s artistic career.
