About the museum
Trelleborgs museum was founded in 1934, when the local historian and farmer Olof Christoffersson from Fru Alstad donated over 5,000 objects from his archaeological and cultural-historical collection. The same year the museum moved into the former hospital Skyttsgården in eastern Trelleborg.
Since 2010 the museum has been in its present premises at Stortorget 1 in central Trelleborg. The museum is part of Trelleborgs museer together with Vikingamuseet Trelleborgen and Axel Ebbes konsthall.
In the permanent exhibitions, Stadslifv tells the story of Trelleborg’s history from the 7th century to the present, and Öga mot Öga takes the visitor back thousands of years to the prehistory of Söderslätt. For children there are special trails through the exhibitions. The museum also shows several art exhibitions every year.
