About the museum

Bösarps Bygdeförening (Bösarp Local Association) was formed on 6 March 1985 after a study circle on local history for the villages of Västra Virestad, Bösarp, Södra Virestad and Lilla Markie. At the same time the idea arose of building up a museum in Bösarp, and the small house that once belonged to the village school was chosen.

The museum was inaugurated the same day, and the objects were donated or lent by the farmers of the villages. The collection quickly grew so large that there was almost no room for it from the start. Today the museum holds many unique objects from prehistoric times up to the modern era, mainly from the district.

Over the years the association has shown several exhibitions on different themes. For about twenty years the museum has been open on Sundays in July, when visitors can, over a cup of coffee, have their archaeological finds and fossils assessed.
