About the museum
The fire museum is at Eksjöhovgård, just east of Sävsjö, between the Eksjöhovgård inn and the castle ruin by national road 127. The building was formerly used as a henhouse, woodshed and outdoor privy for the farm’s statare (tenant farmhands).
The museum shows the history of firefighting in Sävsjö from the early 20th century. In the Sävsjö railway settlement a volunteer fire brigade was formed in 1870, which turned out when the fire watchman blew his horn. The brigade was replaced in 1925 by a municipal fire brigade, and in 1928 a fire engine for ten men was bought for SEK 2,500.
The exhibition consists of old fire engines, older equipment, photographs and other documentation on firefighting in Sävsjö.
