About the museum
In 1926 Julius Lehmann built his intarsia workshop in Bodafors, and two years later Villa Svea was built as the family's stately home. The workshop and the villa remained in the family for three generations, until 2006, when Stiftelsen Lehmanns Verkstad i Bodafors (the Lehmanns Verkstad i Bodafors Foundation) was formed with support from Ulf K Nordensons Stiftelse för hantverk i trä and Carl Malmstens Hantverksstiftelse.
The foundation took over the property so that the unique workshop environment would not be lost, and in the same year it also took over Lantmännen's storehouse building across the street. The purpose is to care for the environment, let it live and develop, and at the same time create room for knowledge sharing and artistic work. Since 2017 Kulturgatan has operated as a visitor attraction and meeting place with exhibitions and workshops.
In the intarsia workshop everything has remained the same since 1926, and in summer visiting craftspeople work on their own intarsia projects here. Villa Svea shows the restored artist's home. During guided group visits the story of Svenska möbelfabrikerna (the Swedish Furniture Factories) and the Lehmann family's life's work is told. The site also has a bakery and café, a design shop, a bookshop and exhibition spaces.
