About the museum
There has been a mill in Komstad since the 14th century, and for a period in the 17th century there were four mills here. Today there are two mills: one is a reconstructed skvaltkvarn (horizontal-wheel mill), and the other is a water-powered mill originally built in 1871. The frame saw from the same year is still driven by a water wheel.
The mill village also includes a blade saw (såg med klinga), a workshop for making millstones from 1909, a newly built smithy and a harvest museum in an old pigsty. The country store has kept its fittings and some goods from the time before it closed in 1975.
Komstad was the court seat of Västra härad (Västra hundred), and a courthouse and coaching inn (gästgiveri) existed here between 1734 and 1908. The area is classified as being of national interest for cultural heritage conservation. Guided tours and group visits can be arranged on request.
