About the museum
The Brukshusen in Bromölla were built in 1905–1907 as homes for the workers at Ifö kaolinbruk (kaolin works). The works management under engineer Hermansen chose to build single-family houses instead of apartment blocks, which was unusual for the time. In total twenty houses of horizontal log construction were erected along Bruksgatan and Tunnbygatan, with two rooms and a kitchen on the ground floor, bedrooms and an attic on the upper floor, and a large garden. Eight of the houses remain, forming a rare cohesive environment along Bromölla's oldest street.
In 1985 Bromölla Municipality handed over two of the houses to Ivetofta hembygdsförening (local heritage association). One is used as the association's clubhouse and the other is furnished as a museum. The workers' home shows how a working family lived in the 1920s and 1930s, with, among other things, a wood-burning stove in the kitchen, a crystal radio and a pull-out sofa.
In an adjoining house is Leos Lanthandel, a country store museum with interiors from the 1850s, where, among other things, sugar cones, coffee grinders, glass, porcelain, hats, lamps, shoes and clothes crowd the shelves.
