About the museum
Iföverkens industrimuseum opened in 1996 and tells the story of the works from its start in 1887 up to today's company. The local geology, with large deposits of clay and limestone, meant that an industrial era could begin in Bromölla when geologists at the end of the 19th century mapped the deposits, including on Ivön.
The exhibitions show the working methods used in different periods and a selection of the products that were made, among them chamotte, insulators, floor tiles and mosaic, pressed goods, sanitary ware, fuses and resistors, and lighting fittings. There are also environments such as a historic office, a laboratory and sections on trade unions and the fire brigade.
Adjoining the museum is a ceramic workshop where artists work together with the museum to bring parts of the historic production process to life; in the workshop, old casting methods are used to make urns and vases that are sold in the museum shop. Part of the premises is used for temporary art exhibitions, and the museum garden has been laid out with volunteer help.
