About the museum
Folkestorps bränneri was built in 1908–1909 by Richard Weibull, who leased Folkestorp farm under the Vittskövle estate. The availability of potatoes in the sandy soil and the new railway with a station in Olseröd provided the basis for a large steam distillery. The building was extended in 1939, when the production rights of the Maglehem farm distillery were moved here, and in 1959 operations and some equipment were moved here from the Olseröd cooperative distillery.
The last working day was 27 April 1971. At that time four employees produced about 500,000 litres of spirit per year. The machinery was restored during a renovation in 1983–1987. In 2005 the distillery was donated to Gärds Härads Hembygdsförening (Gärds Härad local heritage association), and it became a listed building and a working-life museum.
According to the County Administrative Board, it is the only preserved distillery in the county where the machinery and interior remain and can show the entire production process, from potatoes to raw spirit. The plant is a landmark with its tall brick chimney in the farmland.
