About the museum
At Hallamölla on the Verkeån river there has been milling since the Middle Ages, and at least three mills have stood along the river here. Five rapids with a continuous drop of 23 metres make Hallamölla one of Skåne's highest waterfalls. Its heyday came in the later part of the 19th century, when Anna Andersdotter, known as Stampan, and her son Thomas Nilsson built up trade, fulling and dyeing at the site.
The present mill building dates from the 1850s and is built in half-timbering with a black-painted frame and brick infill. The wheel house with red panelling is probably from around 1910. The mill was in operation until 1949, when the miller Erik Engström closed the business. According to the municipality, the plant is still fully functional.
The local people wanted to preserve the mill, and in 1950 an agreement was signed between the Christinehof estate management and Albo härads hembygdsförening that the association would manage it. Today it is run by Hallamöllagruppen (the Hallamölla group). After vandalism in 2022 the group is making a new waterwheel, and the chimney and roof were renovated in summer 2024.
