About the museum
Gammelgårdens friluftsmuseum (Gammelgården Open-Air Museum) in Köping is run by Köpings stads museer och utställningshall (Köping Town Museums and Exhibition Hall) and shows building culture, old crafts and some of the town's early trades. Today the open-air museum consists of seven buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries, from dwelling houses with a farmstead to a smithy, a rope-walk and a tannery.
The buildings contain collections of objects connected with a farmer's home, including vessels for food preparation, textile crafts and farming tools, and the environments give an insight into life in the 19th century.
During the summer the museum is open to the public with many activities for different ages, and a café opens at Gammelgården. At other times of the year the area is closed, but temporary activities take place. The museum is part of the activities of Köpings museum together with Nyströmska gården.
