About the museum
The exhibition was inaugurated on 17 May 2025 in the Landsort lighthouse on Öja, the southernmost point of the Stockholm archipelago. It was prepared by Svenska Fyrsällskapet (the Swedish Lighthouse Society) in consultation with the Swedish Maritime Administration (Sjöfartsverket) and the residents of the site, and Sjöfartsverket contributed objects from a storehouse in Norrköping.
The exhibition tells the story of Landsort as a lighthouse station and shows lighthouse equipment and pictures from different eras. Among the objects is a third-order catadioptric lens (katadioptrisk plan lins). The history of the lighthouse site goes back to a beacon that existed in 1644; the present stone tower was lit at the end of the 17th century, the red iron cone was added in 1870, and electric light was used from 1938.
