About the museum
Naturum Stendörren is a visitor centre in the Stendörren nature reserve in Södermanland, at the farm Aspnäset on the shore with a view of the sea. It is run by the County Administrative Board of Södermanland and provides information about the Baltic Sea and the nature, environment and cultural history of the archipelago.
In naturum the permanent exhibition Det unika havet Östersjön (The Unique Sea, the Baltic) is shown, where visitors can crank up the land uplift and see how the shoreline has changed, guess who eats whom, and look for tangle shrimps in the aquarium. During the season there are guided tours, feeding of the animals in the aquarium and netting at the shoreline, and naturum has a small shop with books and nature articles and an outdoor serving area with fika during the summer.
There are several nature trails in the reserve. The outdoor exhibition Historien i Sörmland Stendörren (The History of Stendörren in Södermanland), developed together with Sörmlands museum, follows a trail about two kilometres long, and Stendoras stig (Stendora's Trail), about one kilometre long, is aimed at children. At a few places in the reserve there are sculptures of rare and threatened species.
