About the museum
Garvaregården (the Tanner's Farm) is a former craft farm in central Trosa with roots in the 1700s. Tanning was once carried out on the farm, and it is an example of the craft farms that existed in the district. The farm has been a listed building since 2001.
Today Garvaregården is owned by Trosa Municipality and is used by Trosa Local Heritage Society (Trosa hembygdsförening), which owns the historical collections. In the old cowshed is Trosa stadsmuseum (Trosa Town Museum), with, among other things, an exhibition on the time when fishing was the town's most important livelihood.
On the farm grounds there is also a summer café with a garden, and Trosa Sommarteater (Trosa Summer Theatre) has its stage here. The activities are mainly oriented towards the summer.
