About the museum

Hedenstedts taktegelmuseum (Hedenstedt Roof Tile Museum) is a small private museum at Åda manor near Trosa. The museum is run by the Hedenstedt family, whose company Hedenstedt AB (taktegel.se) was founded in 1991 and sells used roof tiles in the barn next to the museum.

The museum is very small, but it shows three kinds of tile on its outer walls to make the differences between extruded, press-moulded and hand-made roof tiles visible. The exhibition explains how a tiled roof is built, how to assess the quality of old tiles and how to recognise the different methods of manufacture. The collection of stamped, hand-made roof tiles is a particular source of pride.

On the site there is also a trial roof where children and adults can try laying tiles the way it was done in the 18th century.
