About the museum
The Gyllenbielkeska hospitalet was built in 1729 and is one of Sweden's oldest preserved poorhouses with its original interior. It was in use until 1949. After the parish received approval in 1952 to convert the house into a parish hall, it was rebuilt in 1958, on the condition that the northern part be preserved in its original state to show how a poor-relief facility worked in the first part of the 18th century.
The northern part is today a museum run by Kvidinge Sockens Hembygdsförening (Kvidinge Parish Local Heritage Association). The museum opened in 1959, and the association also uses the second and third floors for its collections. There you will find, among other things, a classroom, a small church hall and four models of how Kvidinge church has looked through the ages.
On the ground floor is the shared living room, where the residents ate and socialised, and a couple of preserved personal rooms of about 5 square metres with period-typical furnishings. Adjoining them is the old kitchen with a large fireplace.
