About the museum

Hälleviks fiskemuseum is run by the local heritage association Facklan and lies in the Hällevik cultural quarter by Strandvägen. For several years residents donated fishing and maritime objects to the association, and from these gifts the idea of a fishing museum grew. The museum opened in 1976 and was extended in 1979 to house the donated boats.

The collections show how fishermen and seafarers lived and worked: work tools, photographs, boats, engines and other equipment from the late 19th century and the early 20th century. They include a wreck eka (vrakeka, a type of rowing boat), three Blekinge ekor (Blekinge-type boats) and a wheelhouse. Hälleviks ledfyr (leading light), which originally belonged to the harbor, is shown at the museum.

The Spruthuset (fire-pump house) with an old fire pump, the harbor’s stone piers with their bollards, and a model of the Kulstången from Stiby hill belong to the cultural quarter. The museum has been extended with a lecture hall, where the reception and staff room are now located.
