About the museum
Bahco museet (Bahco Museum) is run by the J.P. Johansson-sällskapet (J.P. Johansson Society), which was formed in 1992. Since 1994 the society has had a museum focusing on J.P. Johansson, the inventor of the adjustable pipe wrench and the adjustable spanner. He was born in 1853, established himself as an entrepreneur in Enköping in 1886 and in 1887 started Enköpings Mekaniska Verkstad (Enköping Mechanical Workshop), which laid the foundation for Bahco. During his life he received about 110 patents.
The first museum was forced to close in 2018, as the premises could no longer be used, and the objects were put into storage. After an offer of premises of 300 square metres in the Stenvreten industrial area, a new museum could be built up, and it opened to the public on 21 May 2022.
Today the museum shows the activities, products and development of the Bahco companies and the journey of the brand, from Sandvik's purchase of Bahco Verktyg (Bahco Tools) in 1991 to the American company Snap-on taking over the operation in 1999, and today Bahco is used as a brand all over the world. The museum also wants to reflect Bahco's significance for Enköping, and there is, among other things, a digital library of old Bahco literature.
