About the museum
Ernst Westerlund (1839–1924) was town physician in Enköping and in 1877 bought the farm at the corner of Kyrkogatan and Sandgatan. The town bought the house in 1922, but the doctor was allowed to live there until his death in 1924. Thereafter the house was rebuilt as a residence for the cellarmaster of Stadshotellet (the Town Hotel), and the ground floor was fitted out with simpler hotel rooms.
The Westerlundsällskapet (Westerlund Society), formed in 1984, worked to obtain the use of parts of the farm for a museum. In spring 1986 the conversion of the first parts of the ground floor began, and in 1994 the museum was extended with the two remaining large rooms. The museum was set up in cooperation with Enköpings museum and reflects both the doctor's professional life and his family life.
The upper floor was renovated by the municipality in 1994–1995 and furnished with period-typical colours and wallpapers from 1900–1910, with gifts and purchased antique furniture. The floor was first shown to the public on the first Advent in 1996. In the garden there is a carriage shed with the doctor's old one-horse carriage (enspännardroska) and a summer house used as a music pavilion. Enköping Municipality still owns the farm and uses the upper floor for representation a few times a year.
