About the museum
Naturum Vindelfjällen Hemavan is one of two visitor centres for the Vindelfjällen nature reserve and is run by the County Administrative Board of Västerbotten. The building lies at the starting point of the Kungsleden, Drottningleden and Lapplandsleden trails. The exhibitions deal with the mountains' animals, plants, geology and cultural history.
Next to the naturum lies Fjällbotaniska trädgården (the Mountain Botanical Garden), one of Sweden's highest-situated and one of the world's most northerly botanical gardens, with hundreds of plants. The garden is always open with free admission and has a 400-metre gravel path. There are also nature trails, a mown fen (slåttermyr) with a hay barn from the 1870s, places to have coffee and turf huts (torvkåtor). On Humlans stig (the Bumblebee Trail), children can explore the world of bumblebees.
