About the museum
Kungajaktmuseet Älgens berg is at Bergagården on Hunneberg, one of the two plateau mountains Halle and Hunneberg just south of Lake Vänern, between Trollhättan and Vänersborg. The mountains form an eco-park and are part of Sweden’s first UNESCO Global Geopark. Bergagården is the hub of the visits and houses a visitor centre with a museum, café and shop.
The museum tells of the area’s animals and nature, its geology and its cultural history. Visitors can come close to an elk in the exhibition, follow the fossil Grapto through the mountains’ 477-million-year geological history, and experience the royal hunt, which according to the exhibition has been carried out since 1351. There are also stories of people who have lived on the mountains since the Stone Age, of legends and myths, and of a gold treasure that lay hidden at the foot of the mountain.
In an eco-park exhibition, developed together with the landowner Sveaskog, visitors receive tips on activities and day-trip destinations. The operation is today run under the name Destination Halle- & Hunneberg, and the earlier name Kungajaktmuseet Älgens berg is still used in several tourist sources.
