About the museum

Saab Car Museum first opened in 1975 on the initiative of Albert Trommer, who was responsible for visitor activities at the passenger car division of Saab-Scania. The museum was first located in the basement of the old Saab-ANA facility and already then showed the most important cars, among them the Saab 92001, the so-called Ursaaben. For the Saab Group’s 50th anniversary in 1987, the museum moved to the old engine sheds in the Nohab area of Trollhättan.

For the anniversaries of Saab Automobile and Saab AB in 1997 the museum was rebuilt completely and the exhibition space was doubled. A new interior was created in 2005, and it still characterises the museum today. The cars have been driven on special occasions all along, including in connection with anniversaries and product launches.

When Saab Automobile went bankrupt on 19 December 2011, the museum and its collections were under threat. An offer of SEK 28 million from the City of Trollhättan, Saab Group and the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Memorial Fund saved the operation. Today the museum is owned by the City of Trollhättan and Saab AB and is run by Innovatum Science Center AB with support from Västra Götaland Region. The exhibition follows Saab’s car history from the first prototypes to the last car to leave the production line.
