About the museum
MC Collection is a private collection of motorcycles that aims to show the motorcycle from a design, art and technology history perspective. The collection was assembled by the motorcycle enthusiast Christer R Christensson together with the motorcycle historian Ove Johansson, and includes hundreds of motorcycles from 1904 to the present day, of which just over a hundred are shown at a time. The collection was previously shown at Rottneros in Värmland and at Edsvik in Sollentuna.
Since early summer 2019 the exhibition has been in the Stenstallet (stable building) at Tidö Castle outside Västerås, at the initiative of the castle's owner, David von Schinkel. The exhibition was designed in collaboration with the designer Caroline Romare. The castle, built in 1625–1641 for the Chancellor of the realm (rikskansler) Axel Oxenstierna, has been open to the public since 1971 and is owned by the von Schinkel family.
Some of the motorcycles are linked to well-known motorcycle personalities, racing riders and designers, and picture material tells their stories. The exhibition is changed before each season. In the same building and on the same ticket, a bicycle collection is shown, from early wooden velocipedes to modern specialist bicycles, and in the Stenstallet there is also a museum shop and a café.
