About the museum

The Museispårvägen Malmköping is run by the non-profit association Svenska Spårvägssällskapet (Swedish Tramway Society), which has built up the facility since 1969 and which is known as Sveriges Lokaltrafikmuseum (Sweden’s Local Transport Museum). The tramway opened in 1969 and runs on part of the old railway Stålboga–Skebokvarn, originally Mellersta Södermanlands Järnväg. The line is about 2.6 km long between Malmköping and Hosjö and has two passing places; the journey takes about 25 minutes and passes lakes, meadows and forest.

The museum has more than 40 trams from Sweden’s former twelve tram towns, of which a third have so far been renovated for museum operation. The oldest tram is from 1903 and the youngest from the 1950s. The collection also includes about twenty buses.

Sveriges bussmuseum (Sweden’s Bus Museum) is part of the facility and opened in summer 1999 in connection with the centenary of the bus in Sweden. It shows the development of bus transport through vehicles, models and display panels, including producer-gas (gengas) operation during the Second World War and the trolleybus era (trådbusstiden). Traffic and sales run from May to September, while technical work continues all year round. In 2026 the Museispårvägen was named Årets Arbetslivsmuseum (Working Life Museum of the Year).
