About the museum
Sparreholms bilmuseum (Sparreholm Car Museum) is part of the museums at Sparreholm Castle. In the museum hall stand about 60 veteran and classic cars, which show the development of the car from the late 19th century to today; the museum describes itself as one of Europe's finest car collections.
Among the most talked-about cars are a Mercedes 540K from 1936 that belonged to Prince Gustaf Adolf, a Cadillac V8 from 1939 that belonged to King Gustav V and gave its name to Kungens kurva (the King's Bend), a Mercedes 300 SL Måsvingen (Gullwing) from 1955, and a Cadillac V16 from 1931 that was ordered by Ivar Kreuger. The collection also includes a Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost from 1921 and several early cars from the 1890s.
Hanging from the ceiling are about 50 models of historical aircraft, including a B17 Flying Fortress, and the hall contains many enamel signs and old petrol pumps. At the castle there is also a carriage museum with about 60 carriages and sleighs, which groups can view after registration.
