About the museum

Oxelösunds Sjöfartsmuseum (Oxelösund Maritime Museum) was inaugurated in 2015 in a property by the harbour in Oxelösund. The museum is run by the non-profit association Klubb Maritim, whose local branch in Oxelösund also has its club premises in the building.

The exhibitions deal with the history of seafaring in the vicinity of Oxelösund: the harbour through the ages, pilotage from the 1600s onwards, including from the island of Hävringe, and the shipping company with the 84 ships of Grängesrederiet, which for almost 80 years carried ore across the world’s oceans. There are also ship models and information screens.

Outside on the site stands Sweden’s first motor-driven pilot boat, Mulle from 1905, and a small lighthouse building. The museum is open in summer; the rest of the year activity is for members, but once a month the association invites lecturers on maritime themes, and everyone is welcome.
