About the museum

The association Skärgårdsmuseet i G:a Oxelösund was formed in 1994 with the aim of showing how people lived in the archipelago in the past. The association leased Grantorpet, one of the oldest houses in Gamla Oxelösund, and began a comprehensive renovation to restore the house to its condition in the second half of the 1800s. The museum opened in 1995 and has since been open to the public in summer.

In Grantorpet lives the fictional fishing family Eriksson from the island of Granö in the Oxelösund archipelago. The family’s life at different stages forms the background to the museum’s annual summer exhibition, where, among other things, they have celebrated Christmas and weddings, held christenings and received summer guests. The exhibition is built up with life-size dolls, clothing, porcelain and furniture from the period.

In Gregers bod (Gregers’ storehouse) next to the museum, old outboard motors from, among others, Penta, Archimedes and Evinrude are shown, and in the museum’s boathouse on the quay lie a few old vernacular boats (allmogebåtar). Fishing, hunting, farming and pilotage tools also belong to the collection. In the Fyrhuset (lighthouse house) and the Dasset there are flea-market goods and curiosities, and crafts are sold in the museum.
