About the museum
The first general store in Önneköp opened in 1895 in a building that no longer survives. In the late 1940s the shopkeeper's daughter Hedvig married Ivar Bergkvist, and they opened a shop in a house that her father had had built in 1916. The shop closed in 1983 when Hedvig fell and broke her hip.
The house, with all its fittings, was donated and eventually passed to Önneköps Byaförening (Önneköp Village Association), which restored it on the outside and reinstated the original blue and green colours. The inside was left as it was, and the shelves were refilled with goods from the storeroom on the upper floor. The museum opened in 1995, and the village association received Hörby Municipality's culture prize for the work.
Both the shop and Hedvig and Ivar's home are shown as they were when they lived and worked there. On the upper floor there is a flea market, a nostalgia room with, among other things, Hedvig's wedding dress, and an archive room that collects material on Önneköp and Långaröd parish. Among the objects is also a clock from Önneköp in the Mora clock style, from the 1830s or 1840s.
