About the museum
Övraby mölla was built in 1887 and is today fully working. It is one of the few windmills in Skåne that have been preserved in original condition, both the building and the machinery. The mill type is called holländare (Dutch-type mill) and has a cap (hätta) that can be turned so that the sails face the wind when grinding.
Övraby mölla has a wind rose, so that the cap is turned automatically, and it is probably the only mill in Skåne with working self-turning. The mill was run commercially until 1974, when the last miller, Nils Broomé, retired. It was then taken over by Föreningen Övraby Mölla (Övraby Mill Association), which maintains and cares for it and grinds and sells flour in the summer.
