About the museum
Petes is a typical Gotlandic coastal farmstead from the first half of the 1800s, beautifully situated close to the sea. The farm reflects both the outer and inner life of the Gotland countryside in the 1700s and 1800s.
Gotland’s first female pharmacist, Ada Block, bought the dwelling house in 1947 and lived there in the summers together with the housekeeper Maja Göthberg. The same year she bought a tar-coated storehouse (bulhus) from the mid-1700s from Hägdarve in Silte and had it moved to the farm. Ada Block had a great interest in local heritage conservation, ancient monuments and roses, and she restored the farm to its original condition.
In the garden many older rose varieties grow that have been cultivated on Gotland for a long time. The farm is run by Gotlands Museum as a museum farm, with guided tours during the season and a café and restaurant in the barn.
