About the museum
Ramsele hembygdsgård lies in the Rafnasil cultural area in the Faxälven valley, with views from the lookout point (utsiktsnipan) over the ridged landscape (niplandskapet). Ramsele Local Heritage Association was formed in 1938, and gradually buildings were moved here from various villages in the parish. First came the double cottage Gammelgården from Björkvattnet, then the red-painted half-timbered building Erik Järnes gård. In total there are about twenty buildings in the area, including a large stable and cowshed building from Björkhöjden.
The craft house is a former coaching-inn building from Forsås, moved here in 1993 and owned by Ramsele Craft Association (Ramsele hantverksförening). Local craftspeople’s products are sold there, and the house is open every day in summer. The research centre was built in 1993 as an archive and culture house and is run by a foundation; in the research room, genealogists and local-history researchers can search population registers, court records and other sources.
The site also has a café, a bakehouse and a dance floor. The local heritage farm is used for large events such as Midsummer celebrations, Ramsele-Edseleveckan (the Ramsele-Edsele Week), a veteran car exhibition, Rafnastämman (the Rafna gathering), an autumn market and the lorry meeting (lastbilsträffen).
