About the museum
Revsunds hembygdsförening (Revsund Local Heritage Society) was formed in January 1973. In 1994 the society bought the farm Ubyn 1 in Gällö, which was colloquially called Gästis, and began a careful renovation of the buildings.
The courthouse was built in 1850 and moved to the site around 1860, after the land reform (laga skifte). A fire in 1880 destroyed almost the whole farm, but the upper part of the courthouse survived and was then extended with, among other things, a large courtroom and a cellar with a dungeon (fängelsehåla). The farm was the court venue for the district until 1916 and later a coaching inn. The local heritage society rented the courthouse as a museum in April 1982, and it is today the local history museum. The bakehouse was built in 1912.
The society also manages Karl Knutsvallen, a shieling (fäbodvall) about seven kilometres from Gällö by the E14 towards Sundsvall, with a double cottage (parstuga) that was moved there in the 1990s.
