About the museum

Siaröfortet (Siarö Fort) lies on Kyrkogårdsön in the middle of the fairway between Vaxholm and Furusund and was built during the First World War to protect the approach to Stockholm. The installation is today a well-preserved cultural monument with thick walls and a strategically chosen location.

Visitors can explore the fort’s interior rooms, learn how it was built and what significance it had, and hear stories about the people who served here. In summer, guided tours of just under an hour are held, partly over hilly terrain. It is also possible to walk round on your own, and an audio guide can be hired at the reception.

The island is managed by Statens fastighetsverk (Swedish National Property Board). In the old buildings from 1916 there is an archipelago guesthouse with restaurant and café, and since 2025 the operation has been run by a family business. The fort is reached by the regular boats of Waxholmsbolaget (the Waxholm Company) from Strömkajen in Stockholm and from Vaxholm, by one’s own boat or by private boat transport.
